Photo Blogging Challenge (January 2018): Legos

January 31, 2018

January came in and now it’s on its way out.

And for this month, we went to something you could do indoors. I worry this is one of those themes that might have a smaller turnout, but we’ll see how it comes out.

Legos are an interesting item for photography. I had some ideas that didn’t pan out, so I went in a different direction. For those who follow my blog, you know a long time ago I set out on a mission — a Lego mission — to accumulate the right amount of Legos to build a baseball stadium. I have the instructions, as well as the supply list and I’ve slowly been accumulating what I need. For the record, I’m also working on a hot dog store. The idea of this is to give me something to do at times when stress levels are high. It’s been good for that.

However, with a project that requires about 6,000 pieces, it takes a lot of time! I haven’t started building anything because I am still just gathering all the pieces I need. That’s just for the baseball stadium! The hot dog building requires something like 1,200 pieces!

Anyway, this is an interesting theme, so it will be fun to see what people came up with.

So let’s get on with this! Here are my five and I look forward to other posts!

1. The plans

It’s crazy to think about how in-depth a Lego project can be. The plans for these big projects come in a PDF and, as you can see, it breaks it down for you when it comes to what you need. Just the list of things I need is like 35-40 pages (for both projects). I figure, once I start building, I will just put the instructions on my iPad and use that instead of printing out like 250 pages!

2. Play ball!

I picked this guy up at a Lego store a few years back. Who knew he would be so good for this project. I’m going to have to track down a bunch more, however, so that I can field a team in the baseball stadium!

3. Piles of Legos

When the Legos I order come in, a lot of times they are just in a bag, all together. So then I have to go through them, organize, and make sure I received everything. But, it’s kind of fun to do this. Here’s some after organizing.

4. Bullpen car

OK, so this isn’t a Lego, but rather a knock off. Still, I couldn’t resist as I think it will add to the project. There were batting cages, too, and I probably should have grabbed them. Maybe I will this year if I can find them again.

5. Trees!

Turns out these aren’t the easiest to obtain, so when I got them, I ordered a few extra just to have them. I needed to order them from a Lego store in Europe (I want to say Czech Republic). The Lego stores out there are definitely all over the world!

There are my five. I look forward to seeing what everybody else came up with!

If you took part in this month’s challenge, make sure to link up below. And for those of you who participated, make sure you try and get to other people’s blogs and comment (here, too!). Let’s continue to grow this challenge and have a strong community. Come back and check out the others who link later on, too!

Also, don’t forget to get back here Thursday, February 1 for the February theme!

NOTE: I set up a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully it can be a place where things are discussed and some interaction etc. You can access it here.

You had to order your LEGO trees from *where”..? Oh my goodness, you must have spent a fortune of shipping and handling alone.
We have hockey players from OYA, very cool!
That’s some super great projects you’re working on. Once you have all the bricks, Cameron will be old enough to help you assemble!
Loved the LEGO theme, thanks for hosting!

Oh my! Perhaps you missed your calling and should have been a structural engineer! I hope you share the finished creation with us. Looks like a fun project…..for those with a LOT of patience. Perhaps Cameron will help. 🙂

Love this updated on your baseball stadium project. Sourcing specific parts for a build can be painful – in terms of time and money!! I look forward to seeing the finished build in photos someday, even if it includes a few knock off bricks 🙂

Hoping participation ramps up a bit in February.

I’m sorry I missed out on this. I had a few ideas but come to find out my kids had packed all their legos away and I simply ran out of time. I’ll just sit back and enjoy yours and the others and try to get back on track for February.

[…] PJ’s photo challenge prompt for January is LEGO®. Now, you would think with two grandies, we’d have a lot of these little bricks lying around the house waiting for unsuspecting feet to step on them. I know a gajillion kids and adults love these little plastic building sets, but we’re, evidently, in the minority. What we do have (in limited supply) are the larger LEGO bricks called Duplos®. So, I’ll be modifying the prompt a bit, and adding a bit of trivia to each photo entry…mainly because my photo skills on this one were not that stellar. […]

Self care is important. With work as stressful as Self care is important. With work as stressful as it usually is during this month, the little things can help you relax. I went this morning for a beard trim. It’s only 30-40 minutes, but it’s nice to have it done. A nice shaping, thinning it out a bit, a hot towel and a straight razor.

Nice.

In the world in which we live, little things like this can really be good for you. Maybe it’s a massage. Maybe it’s a therapy session. Maybe it’s a trip to the barber shop. But take care of yourself. It’s important.

And if you are in my area and need a trim or whatever — check out Chris (@studio11chris ) at @studio11barbersuite in Oneonta. Well worth it!

A video looking at my first year and a half of owning a golden retriever, my first dog. It's had its ups and downs, but I've truly loved the ride and look forward to the future.

I hate being in front of the camera, but also realize sometimes it's not the worst thing in the world. So, I'm getting better with it. Week 4's theme was all about us and having us in front of the camera, so I tried to come up with a creative way to do it.
