A 'lil HooHaa

Messing with the blogging world since 2005

A (pathtag) challenge for the ages .. and for bloggers!

December 28, 2017

OK, I know it’s just a trinket.

But it’s kind of a cool one.

For those of you who may not know about geocaching items, there’s a total subculture to the game. That being things one can collect.

Pathtags are some of those items.

A pathtage is a small, metal collectiable. It’s trackable on the back and via the pathtags.com website. These are sought after, found, and traded. They can also be used for many other things, such as key chains, or just hung somewhere

They are a little smaller than a quarter, but very cool. My personal collection is more than 1,000 of these items. One day, I plan on taking photos of all of them, as well as my other collectibles (geocoins, signature items etc.) and putting them into a coffee-table book.

Alas, that’s neither here nor there at this point.

This is about a challenge to earn one.

I’ve enlisted designer Chris Mackey to help me with a special pathtag. I haven’t decided if it will be a shape, or just a regular round one. I’m still debating on the look. This isn’t a tag I will likely be trading or anything. This is more for my fellow bloggers out there. I’m challenging you and at the end of it, there will be a pathtag for you. I will mail it to anywhere in the world.

As many of you know, I run several challenges throughout the year. This will work for that. I am challenging you to complete a minimum of 75 percent of each challenge. If you can do that, I’ll send you the tag at the end of the year. The tag will note something about the HooHaa Blogging Challenge, or something along those lines. These are items that can be used as keychains, or to hang somewhere or the such. They really are usually quite nice.

So what would that entail?

First, have a blog (they are easy to set up if it’s something you’ve been wanting to do!). Second, do the challenges and make sure you link up. If you need help with that aspect, let me know! My challenges and post counts for each are as follows:

  • 20 Days of Chill (January/20 posts)
  • Photo Blogging Challenge (Monthly/12 posts)
  • Can of Corn Challenge (Monthly, March-October/8 posts)
  • 10 Days of Heart (August/10 posts)
  • Rory’s Story Cubes (Every two weeks/26 posts)

That comes out to a total of 76 posts. If you are a blogger, hopefully this will help and encourage you to write a bit more/take more photos. And, hopefully this will help you find more blogs to visit and interact with more bloggers!

So, to qualify for the tag, you will have to complete the following amount of posts (minimum):

  • 20 Days of Chill: 15 posts
  • Photo Blogging Challenge: 9
  • Can of Corn Challenge: 6
  • 10 Days of Heat: 7/8 (it’s actually 7.5, but if you do extra in another, it will be 7, if you don’t … it’s 8)
  • Rory’s Story Cubes: 19/20 (see above … it’s actually 19.5, so …)

In the end, if you reach 75 percent overall and have taken part in each of the items, I’ll likely be lenient. But 75 percent is 75 percent. And if you miss all of one of the challenges, then I won’t care about your percentages.

With that in mind, if you come in late to the challenge (later in the year), I’ll allow you to back up and do the older challenges. You might have to post a link in the comment section of the link up post (the link ups only stay live for so long), but I will allow you to make up ground.

Unless something crazy happens, I only anticipate ordering 50. I won’t order the actual tag until the middle of the year so I can see if anybody has been up to the challenge. And, if by some crazy miracle there are more than 50 attempting it, I will order a bigger batch.

But this is the challenge. I hope you will take part and be a part of this. I look forward to seeing who can complete the challenge!

You can see a list of all the challenges and all (tentative) dates here: 2018 HooHaa Challenges.

If you think you might attempt this, please post in the comments so I can get an idea of who might be going for it.

Self care is important. With work as stressful as Self care is important. With work as stressful as it usually is during this month, the little things can help you relax. I went this morning for a beard trim. It’s only 30-40 minutes, but it’s nice to have it done. A nice shaping, thinning it out a bit, a hot towel and a straight razor.

Nice.

In the world in which we live, little things like this can really be good for you. Maybe it’s a massage. Maybe it’s a therapy session. Maybe it’s a trip to the barber shop. But take care of yourself. It’s important.

And if you are in my area and need a trim or whatever — check out Chris (@studio11chris ) at @studio11barbersuite in Oneonta. Well worth it!

A video looking at my first year and a half of owning a golden retriever, my first dog. It's had its ups and downs, but I've truly loved the ride and look forward to the future.

I hate being in front of the camera, but also realize sometimes it's not the worst thing in the world. So, I'm getting better with it. Week 4's theme was all about us and having us in front of the camera, so I tried to come up with a creative way to do it.
