Photo Blogging Challenge (August 2017): Summer fun

August 30, 2017

Am I the only one who is wondering where the summer went?

Though summers usually go pretty fast, this one seemed to really move along at a high rate of speed. Now don’t get me wrong – I did a lot of things. But, still, it would be nice for it to go a little slower.

Anyway, this month’s theme was summer fun. There are oh so many ways this can be interpreted, which makes it a lot of fun. There are so many things you can do in the summer, so that makes it nice.

So what kind of summer fun did you have?

I know I had a lot of fun throughout the summer and would definitely like it to continue. I look forward to seeing what kind of summer fun you all had.

My five are below. And as I mentioned last month, please try and visit and comment on each person’s posts. I know sometimes we get to them late — and that’s fine. But it’s disheartening to visit people’s blogs (I’m usually quite late!) and see only a few of the participants visiting others. Remember, we are a community. Support one another. I know I am a couple of months behind and I have it on my schedule to start back-visiting because I miss seeing what everybody has done! I will catch up… honest!

All that being said, it’s time to see what this month has brought us. Here is my five for the month:

1. Fireworks

The summer is filled with fireworks! It could be the Fourth of July, a town celebration, baseball games, or many other things. I love fireworks and have seen many games this summer where fireworks follow the game. It’s always an awesome end to a night!

2. Baseball

Summer fun, to me, always includes baseball. I had the chance to see a bunch of new stadiums this year, but crossing Wrigley Field off the bucket list was a good thing!

3. Fairs

The summer is filled with state and county fairs, and where there’s a fair, there’s fair food! I always like to get fried dough. This one is from the New York State Fair.

4. Pay attention

This goes hand-in-hand with baseball, of course. Being I’m at games, I always look for interesting photos. I like the look of this and thought, despite it being common sense, was interesting.

5. Sunflowers

This actually is something that lets me know the end of summer is coming – when the sunflowers start coming out a lot. I truly love sunflowers, so it always makes me smile when I see them.

There are my five and I look forward to seeing what others had this month!

If you took part in this month’s challenge, make sure to link up below. And for those of you who participated, make sure you try and get to other people’s blogs and comment (here, too!). Let’s continue to grow this challenge and have a strong community. Come back and check out the others who link later on, too!

Also, don’t forget to get back here Friday, September 1 for the September theme!

NOTE: I set up a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully it can be a place where things are discussed and some interaction etc. You can access it here.

Wrigley Field was very cool to be at. I knew I needed to be behind the plate to really capture the stadium, especially at night. And sunflowers just seem to make me smile!

LOL! I knew you’d be including lots of baseball-related photos this month? All great shots that do a wonderful job of representing summer fun. The sunflower is really pretty. Perhaps you can keep the squirrels from eating all the seeds so you can enjoy some of them!

Baseball takes up a lot of my time in the summer, so definitely lots of photos! I still think one day, I’d love to have my own field of sun flowers. Those fields always seem like perfect photo opportunities!

Love all five of them, hard to choose. How fabulous that you got to go to Chicago! It’s one of my favourite cities, and I hope you had the opportunity to see stuff not just the stadium!

We didn’t do a lot of roaming the city, but I’ve been there before and have seen some of the main attractions. Seeing both stadiums in one day was perfect though!

And now I want fair food!!! For us, the fair comes the end of September. Until then, I am going to dreaming about eating a funnel cake.

    I love sunflowers too.

I do love fair food, but it’s so bad for you! I usually go in with a plan and try not to stray from it. That way, I know I can make it out semi-OK. 🙂

The foul ball thing reminds me of the “Coffee is hot” warnings on to go cups. Good picture though!

    Great job PJ!

All the photos are wonderful but our shared love of baseball makes me partial to the Wrigley and “Keep your head in the game” shots.

And Wrigley allows me to cross off the second of the big three (LA is the other crossed off). That means Fenway is next. Hopefully next year!

Wonderful photos I was expecting baseball shots too. I like your take on the sport you always come up with new and interesting angles and image compositions..like in your 4th image using selective focussing to emphasise the ‘Foul Balls’ warning notice. I wouldn’t like to be hit on the head with a flying baseball, before you’ve even seen the ball coming towards you it could be too late!!

It’s the beauty of baseball — so many things one can capture with a camera. The angles, the action, the people. And I agree.. being hit with a foul ball isn’t fun. Have to be on your toes!

Are there fireworks after every baseball game? I’m truly ignorant about this. And if there are, I wonder if it’s the same here in Canada. Somehow, I don’t think so. Anyhow, lucky you to see fireworks so many times each year!

As many others have said, the sunflower photo at the end is the summer fun all-star in my books. We have never planted any, by my in-laws always grow some and I love to watch the bees crawl all over them! When I was visiting my parents in Osoyoos, BC, we saw some sunflowers that were very robust and reached to the roof line of the house beside the garden where they were planted! Must have been ideal growing conditions to supersize them like that!

There are not fireworks after every game, but many minor league teams have them on weekends and such as it draws more people. For example, one minor league team I go to doesn’t draw great. But the 4th of July with massive fireworks … more than 10,000 people. I would assume the professional teams in Canada might have some fireworks, all depending. The Vancouver Canadians, for example, had eight fireworks nights in 2017 from what I can tell. They are a lot of fun though and a great way to end a game. This year, I saw 22 fireworks nights. And sunflowers are so amazing. By far my favorite flower.

Self care is important. With work as stressful as Self care is important. With work as stressful as it usually is during this month, the little things can help you relax. I went this morning for a beard trim. It’s only 30-40 minutes, but it’s nice to have it done. A nice shaping, thinning it out a bit, a hot towel and a straight razor.

Nice.

In the world in which we live, little things like this can really be good for you. Maybe it’s a massage. Maybe it’s a therapy session. Maybe it’s a trip to the barber shop. But take care of yourself. It’s important.

I hate being in front of the camera, but also realize sometimes it's not the worst thing in the world. So, I'm getting better with it. Week 4's theme was all about us and having us in front of the camera, so I tried to come up with a creative way to do it.
