Messing with the blogging world since 2005

My list

I have, on geocaching.com, a bookmark list with caches that I feel are “must visits” at some point in my caching life. Some are great, some are scenic, some are just being there. Every once in a while, I’ll add a new one to the list when I come across something that looks awesome. I’ve decided to add this list to my blog site — which can be viewed by clicking the link at the top of the site.

(Note: If a geocache gets archived before I get to it, I will be taking it off the list and moving everything up one etc.)

If I visit one of these caches, I’ll remove it from the list and put it at the bottom of the page under “visited.”

As I find more with searches and such, I will add. If you see one you think I should have on this list, leave a comment or drop a line.

Without further ado, I give you my Must-visit list for geocaching:

1. Groundspeak Headquarters (GCK25B): This is the home of geocaching.com. An appointment is needed to visit the cache here, but it’s at the top of my list. (Found: August 17, 2015)

2. Original Stache Tribute Plaque (GCGV0P): Unfortunately, the first geocache is no longer there. This plaque is in its place and there is a cache with it as well. It would go hand-in-hand with my top one. (Found: August 14, 2015)

3. No further South from here (GCHN13): It’s a virtual. At the South Pole. How great would that be?

4. The Spot (GC39): Oldest cache in New York and the Eastern seaboard. I’ve been close twice, but haven’t gone. I will do it soon. (Found: March 21, 2009)

6. Bridges & Arches of Central Park (GC17MX1): It’s more than 30 stages. Took about 10 hours. Amazing experience. (Found: August 13, 2009)

7. Europe’s First (GC43): The first geocache in Europe; near Dublin. (Found: July 1, 2010)

8. Subway Cache (GC6FBE): My current all-time favorite. (Found: November 22, 2008)

9. Five Star New York (GCHTK1): A 5/5 mystery/puzzle cache in New York City. It looks like it would take a bit to do, but I might consider seeing if I could get down there in the spring and take a full day or so to do this one. I’m sure other caches could be had during the day!

10. The Homeless Bathtub (GC6FA6): I know a little about this one, but it’s one that I really want to land one day.

11. Mingo (GC30): Oldest active geocache. (Found: September 29, 2018)

12. Burr (GC6341): A virtual in Barrow, Alaska. Go to weather.com and type in Barrow, Alaska. Not many people would probably want to go here too often!

13. Sight Unseen (GC15NP2): A wild-looking multi on Long Island. You have to know a ton!

14. Escape from Alcatraz (GCF7A2): A virtual. You need a hint where this is?

15. Psycho Urban Cache # 13 – Impossible! Give up Now! (GCY72P): Looks a bit crazy. Another one is very near that is the same sort of thing Quite interesting. It’s listed as a 5/5!

16. Northside Pub Crawl (GCM7R6): A multi-stage virtual in Dublin.

17: Southside Pub Crawl (GCJJVZ): A multi-stage virtual in Dublin. (Found: July 5, 2010)

18. Torch Tuber (GCP7VQ): Again, looks like another fun one.

19. Niagara Whirlpool Cache (GCN6M2): An earthcache at Niagara Falls.

20. Ram Glacier Cache (GCB059): The odds are I’ll never do this one or be in the shape to pull it off. It was recently just found for the first time since being placed in 2002. Looks like an intense hike, but what a story it would be.

21. Gardiner’s Treat (GCJKTN): Webcam in Dublin. (Found July 4, 2010)

22. Bonjour de Paris (GCHJA0): A webcam in Paris, France.

23. What did they build this out of? (GCTDJN): An easy micro, but what a wild spot. Took me two trips. (Found: November 8, 2008)

24. Hermit Crab Eggs (GCX6NH): In Massachussets, looks like a fun one.

25. Stiffy by the Liffey (GCE388): Virtual in Dublin. (Found: June 30, 2010)

26. If you place a Multicache will they come (GC1002B): Looks like a fun multi in Pennsylvania and a good, solid hike to boot.

27. Semidome Loft, Yeah! (GC9614): A virtual in California. I’d have to be in a lot better shape to pull this one off, but it seems like it would be a personal adventure that would pay off in the end.

28. Panther Canyon Abode (GCD86E): A virtual in South Texas that looks like it would be one heck of an adventure.

29. GC12 (GC12): Second-oldest active geocache out there.

30. Holy Wastewater II (GC11EPJ): The sister cache to the original, this one is also a must-hit.

31. Star Island Treasure: A lake within an island that’s in a lake… seriously. Cool stuff.

Ones that were on my list but are now archived.

Mission 9: Tunnel of Light (GC1169): One of the only remaining two APE caches out there

Holy Wastewater (she it?) (GCKTF2): I know a lil’ about this one, but it has intrigued me for a long time. It’s one I’d really like to hit. Its sister cache is lower on the list, but one I’d enjoy hitting, too.

Liar Liar (GC19W03): This looks like a total blast. I might look into this one when I visit Jersey.

The Easy Cache (GC1GG8P): Not far from where I went to college. A 5/5. I have my thoughts on this one. But I’d be interested to look into this one for sure. If I can get to this and spend a day or two down there, I’d like to do a lot of caching in my old stomping grounds!

On the corner of 668 (GCPBTV): To really appreciate what this is, go check the images at the cache page. It’s old-school. And seems like a good spot for a photo buff.

Out, done (GCR61J): This one looks too intriguing. A mystery/puzzle cache.

Self care is important. With work as stressful as Self care is important. With work as stressful as it usually is during this month, the little things can help you relax. I went this morning for a beard trim. It’s only 30-40 minutes, but it’s nice to have it done. A nice shaping, thinning it out a bit, a hot towel and a straight razor.

Nice.

In the world in which we live, little things like this can really be good for you. Maybe it’s a massage. Maybe it’s a therapy session. Maybe it’s a trip to the barber shop. But take care of yourself. It’s important.

And if you are in my area and need a trim or whatever — check out Chris (@studio11chris ) at @studio11barbersuite in Oneonta. Well worth it!

The only one I truly am sad I missed buying was a limited edition one for the Asher House sometime last year. I waited and lost out. But, she has her collection and I am sure it will keep growing. There are ones she has outside as well!

A video looking at my first year and a half of owning a golden retriever, my first dog. It's had its ups and downs, but I've truly loved the ride and look forward to the future.

I hate being in front of the camera, but also realize sometimes it's not the worst thing in the world. So, I'm getting better with it. Week 4's theme was all about us and having us in front of the camera, so I tried to come up with a creative way to do it.
